What are the diagnostic criteria for ASD?
A
- Persistent deficits in social communication across contexts
- restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities
- Symptoms must be present in the early developmental years, but may not fully manifest until social demands exceed capacities
- Symptoms must be clinically significant in regards to social, occupational, or other important areas of current functioning
- Symptoms are not better explained by ID or global developmental delay

3 levels of severity (Level 1 is least severe & Level 3 is most severe)

What are characteristics of Asperger’s disorder?
A
- normal to above cognitive functioning
- deficits in the social domain, lack empathy
- unusual prosody
- limited development of EF skills
- deficits in theory of mind
- well developed vocabulary but one-sided monologue in conversation

repetition of utterances spoken by others; can be immediate or delayed

What are behavioral warning signs for ASD?
A
- does not babble or coo by 12 months
- does not gesture (point, wave, grasp) by 12 months
- does not say single words by 16 months
- does not say 2 word phrases on his/her own by 24 months
- has any loss of language or social skills at any age
