Q

Supply management programs

A

Control of the level of farm production of certain agricultural products, such as the egg, chicken, dairy, and turkey industries operating in Canada.

These programs involve quotas set by government or industry on production of these products, essentially to limit the volume of production and thus maintain higher consumer prices.

To be effective, these programs also require import restrictions that help maintain higher prices for the farm products concerned.
