Mental health
state of successful performance of mental function, resulting in productive activities, fulfilling relationships, with other people and the ability to adapt to change and to cope with adversity
Mental Illness
all diagnosable mental disorders
Mental disorders
health conditions that are characterized by alterations in thinking, mood, or behavior associated with distress and/or impaired functioning
mental health problems
signs and symptoms that are of insufficient intensity to meet the criteria for any mental disorders but are sufficient to warrant active efforts in health promotion, prevention, and treatment
anxiety
pathological counterpart of normal fear, manifest by disturbances of mood, as well as of thinking, behavior, and physiological activity
clinical anxiety
behavioral and cognitive changes, occurs even without eliciting event; response is disproportionate and unmanageable
4 characteristics of anxiety

intense fear accompanied by sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, chest pain, fear of dying, loss of emotional control
specific phobias
excessive fear invoked by the presence of an object or situation
social anxiety disorder (social phobia)
persistent anxiety in social situations,
concerned with others noticing anxiety,
fear of embarassment
obsessive-compulsive disorder
recurrent thoughts or images that are perceived as inappropiate, compulsive behavior or thoughts, perceives loss of control
generalized anxiety disorder
worry lasting longer than 6 months, along with physical symptoms, not associated with panic disorder or phobias
post-traumatic stress disorder
anxiety and behavioral issues following exposure to severe trauma
