A

1) static: isometric contractions that produce no change in the affected joint angle
- muscle strength is gained in 1 position only which will limit the application of the strength
- strength gains will be lost quickly if not practiced daily

                                                    or

2) dynamic: isotonic contractions produce a change in the affected joint angle
- ex. Squat causing a change in knee angle
- ex. Pull-up resulting in a change in elbow angle
