the ability to do something well
motor skill (definition)
activities or tasks that require voluntary head, body or limb movement to acheive a goal
fine vs gross motor skill
fine : recruitemnt of small muscle groups.
eg, darts or bouncing a ball
gross : recruitment of large muscle groups
eg, running or swimming
three types of movement
serial
discrete
continuous
serial
patterns of movement involving several discrete skills and is perfromed in a sequence
eg . gymnasitics floor rutine
discrete
having an obvious beginning or end
eg . kicking a ball
continuous
no definate beginning or end point
eg . running a marathon
predictability of environements
open
closed
open environment
when the environment is more unpredictable and external factors cannot be controlled.
closed
when the performer has lots of control over the environment and external factors. usually indoors away from the weather.
three stages of learning
cognitive
associative
autonomous
cognitive
the beginning stage, many mistakes are usually made and large errors
associative
the intermediate or practising stage there are minor errors and alot more practise is taking place
autonomous
the more elite level, athletes are very skillfull and can determine right or wrong or good and bad plays
