Inductive reasoning
In which the premises seek to supply strong evidence for the truth of the conclusion.
Biology
The study of living organisms, divided into many specialized fields.
Deductive reasoning
Is a logical process in which a conclusion drawn from a set of premises contains no more information than the premises taken collectively.
Dependent variable
A variable whose value depends on that of another.
Independent variable
A variable who does not depend on another.
Standardized variable
Variables that remain the same throughout the expirement.
Hypothesis
A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for an investigation.
Null hypothesis
A proposition that undergoes verification to determine if it should be accepted or rejected in favor of the alternative.
Scientific theory
A well substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method.
Scientific law
A statement based on repeated experimental observations that describes some aspect of the universe.
