Chapter 1 Flashcards
How to apply defensive driving
- Plan your driving and leave yourself plenty of time
- Drive smoothly and break in good time
- Stay one step ahead
- Do not take unecessary risks
- Make sure you have a good visibility in front and behind
- Maintain good safety margins
What is the General speed limit
Speed to follow when there are no signs
- In built-up areas: 50 km/h
- Outside built-up areas: 70 km/h
What is a built-up area?
an area in which either of the following is present for a distance of at least 500 metres or, if the length of road is shorter than 500 metres, for the whole road:
- buildings, not over 100 metres apart, on land next to the road;
- street lights not over 100 metres apart.
What is the carriageway?
Part of the orad intended for vehicule traffic
What is the hard shoulder?
zone for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers of slow moving vehicule and mopeds.
When can a solid line be crossed?
- pass an obstacle
- not enough space at a junction for your vehicule
- driving to or from a property
- there is a broken line directly to the right of the solid line.
When does the right-rule priority not apply?
- roundabouts
- acceleration lane
- junctions with a major road
- junction with functionning traffic lights
- junctions with stop or give way road signs
- places where the exit rule applies (drive out from a parking space or filling station)
Synomym for Gice way road sign
Yield sign
All-way stop, who goes first
The first vehicule who arrives at the intersection. Make eye contact with other drivers
Where is the major road sign?
After each junction
What is the turning rule?
You must not obstruct traffic on the road you are turning on to. When turning left you must swerve to uncoming traffic.
When does the exit rule apply?
- out of a parking space, filling station, property
- out from a bike path, home zone, pedestrian street, terrain or hard shoulder
- When you cross a bike path or foot path
- When you drive out of a narrow road, minor road or similar exit
What is the Bus rule?
When driving 50km/h or lower, you have to give way to busses driving out from a bus stop, if you are on the right lane. When you are passing bus you should reduce speed (ready to break, pedestrian)
What is the blocking rule?
You must plan your driving and adapt your speed so that you do not need to stop and block crossing traffic at: junctions, pedestrian crossings, bicycle passages.
Acceleration lane: who yields?
Neither vehicules on the road. Mutual interplay. The driver on the acceleration lane must adapt their speed so that they can drive into a gap without disturbing the traffic on the road.
