what is food
Any nourishing substance that is eaten, or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, promote growth, etc.

AKA- Omnivores Dilemma
Humans must be flexible enough to eat a variety of essential items, yet cautious enough to not randomly ingest harmful foods;
attraction to new foods, but prefer familiar foods.
what is self identity
The choice of which food … complicated by psychological concept regarding eating, the incorporation of food, physical properties of food
this gives rise to stereotypes- Examples?
Native Americans believes milk is for infants, weakens adults
French believes persons who eat too many turnips become gutless
Food choice is also influenced by self identity
food likes or dislikes of someone else are accepted an internalized as personal preferences, good examples:
Children choose foods eaten by admired adults (e.g. teachers), peers

explain the relationship between food, food choices and factors that affect our food choices
Differences in food choices may be traced to cultural (Societies differ in what foods they define as edible, inedible, tasteful and distasteful ,Culture influences how people respond to the physical (technology), social (social organization) and religious (ideology) environment
), biological and environmental factors.
what is the solution to the ominvores paradox
“It is thought that children are less likely than adults to try new foods, in part because they have not yet learned cultural rules regarding what is safe and edible. A child who is exposed repeatedly to new items looses the fear of new foods faster then one who experiences a limited diet” (see Text)
