Q

What are Koch’s Postulates? (4)

A
  1. The microorganism must be present in all animals with the disease and absent from all healthy animals
  2. The microorganism must be isolated from a diseased animal and grown as a pure culture
  3. The microorganism must cause the disease when inoculated into healthy animals
  4. The microorganism must be re-isolated from the newly infected from 3 and grown as pure sample that is identical as that in 2

Q

How are Koch’s Postulates still relevant today?

A
  • Proved that diseases are caused by microorganism
  • obtaining pure cultures in lab
  • identifying agents of diseases when suitable animal models are available
