A
- Compartmentalization and Metabolism
- Growth
- Evolution
2
Q
Properties of SOME cells (3)
A
- Motility
- Differentiation
- Communication
3
Q
How did evolution of cyanobacteria change the earth?
A
- Cyanobacteria produces O2 via photosynthesis
- Their evolution resulted in oxygenation of atm
- Allowed evolution of multicellular organisms
4
Q
What are Koch’s Postulates? (Generally)
A
A set of criteria for linking a specific disease to a specific microorganism
5
Q
What are Koch’s Postulates? (4)
A
- The microorganism must be present in all animals with the disease and absent from all healthy animals
- The microorganism must be isolated from a diseased animal and grown as a pure culture
- The microorganism must cause the disease when inoculated into healthy animals
- The microorganism must be re-isolated from the newly infected from 3 and grown as pure sample that is identical as that in 2
6
Q
How are Koch’s Postulates still relevant today?
A
- Proved that diseases are caused by microorganism
- obtaining pure cultures in lab
- identifying agents of diseases when suitable animal models are available
