Chapter 04 Flashcards
What are 4 organic compounds that are essential for all living organisms?
- Carbohydrates.
- Lipids. (fat)
- Protein
- Nucleic acids.
Explain a monosaccharide, and list the 3 most common monosaccharides.
It’s is called a simple sugar, so it is just one sugar. The three most common are glucose, which is blood sugars and fructose and galactose. Glucose is manufactured by plants. (photosynthesis). Fructose, is fruits, ( sweetness). And Galactose is milk. There identical formula is C6H12O6.
What is a disaccharide? Name the 3 different kinds, and how they are formed.
double sugar. it is two monosaccharides, minus water. there are sucrose which is found on sugar canes, lactose, which is found in milk, and maltose, which is found in plants. Disaccharides are formed by condensation reaction. (removes water.)
What 2 monosaccharides are combined to make each a disaccharide?
Sucrose:
Lactose:
Maltose:
Sucrose: Frutose & Glucose
Lactose: Galactose & Glucose
Maltose: Glucose & Clucose
