Principles of Linear Perspective
Basic principles of linear perspective.
1. Forms seem to diminish in size as they recede.
- Parallel lines that recede seem to converge towards a vanishing point, where they appear to disappear on the horizon line.
Color theory
COLOR reflects our mood, our feeling and our overall perception of life.
Primary Colors-
Red, Yellow, and blue
Secondary Colors-
Made by mixing 2 primary colors., ie: Red + Yellow= Orange.
Tertiary colors-
Made by mixing a primary color with an adjacent secondary. Ie: Yellow + Green= Yellow-Green.
Complementary colors-
Colors opposite on color wheel.
Hatching
Closely spaced parallel lines
Cross-hatching
Parallel lines intersect like a checkerboard
Stippling
Dots spaced close or far apart to suggest darker or lighter areas
Figure
The shape we detach and focus on.
A figure would be considered the “Positive Shape”.
Ground
The surrounding visual information that the figure stands out from, the background. The ground would be considered a negative shape.
Figure Ground Reversal
WHEN “VISUALLY” AN OBJECT CAN BE UNDERSTOOD AS EITHER THE POSITIVE SPACE OR THE NEGATIVE SPACE.
