What is the name of DMS
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
What is dms
It is a book of disorder symptoms and the criteria mus meet to be diagnosed. It does not offer an explanation
What are some criticism with dms
It is overloaded , relies on the medical modal, lack reliability
What are some negatives with labeling
Biasing power, we only see their disorder, even when they behave as healthy we only see their label
What is some positive with labelling
Feel a sense of relief and know what’s wrong, become more understanding and facilitate communication with other people
What is person-first language
When a label is just part of who we are

Why is autism in a spectrum
because there’s levels of severity ( some have debilitating symptoms) and developmental
What are some symptoms of ASD
Social deficit, difficult to feel emotions, attention deficits,difficult seeing others people perspectives,abnormal reaction, repeated interests and sameness ( where change is not good)
What is schizophrenia known for
As the cancer of mental illness

What are some positive symptoms of schizophrenia
Delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking /emotions/ behaviours/speech, lack of attention and catatonia
What are some negative symptoms of schizophrenia
Flat affect ( difficult to express emotions), avolition ,alogia ,attention deficits and social withdrawl
Why do we say schizophrenia is heterogenous
Because it has multiple symptoms that can lead to other things
What are the symptoms of major depressive disorder
sad mood,loss interest,change of appetute,sleepd difficulties,slowness/agitation,energy loss,feeliing worthless,difficult concentrating, physical aches and pains and thoughts of suicide
What is adaptive when experiencing anxiety
They are essential for our life, they keep us safe and help us presue our goals
What is maladaptive in fear and anxiety
Overeaggerates, uncontrollable and dysfuntional
Is anxiety one thing or a group of things
A group of disorders that have maladaptive anxiety as something commun.
What is agoraphobia
The fear of being in a public space
Where is OCD in the DSM
they have their own category, they used to be in the same category in anxiety
Why is OCD not in the same category as anxiety
because they dont share obsession and compulsion
What are obsessions
highly irrational far fetched and intrusive thoughts that repeat over and over
What are compulsions
when you feel presured to do them over and over angain
What happens when you resist OCD
The anxiety explodes and becomes bigger and vengeance
