Chap: 13 Human Health & Microbes Flashcards
Four tissue types
Epithelial, connective, muscle, nervous
What is an epithelial tissue?
It COVERS body surfaces and line internal cavities
What is connected tissue?
It HOLDS body parts together and provide structural support (tissue, adipose, bone, cartilage, blood)
What are muscle tissues?
Tissues that MOVE The body and its parts
Example of muscle tissues
Skeletal, cardiac, smooth
What are nervous tissues?
They DETECT stimuli and relay information
Examples of nervous tissue
Neurons and neurological cells
A weakened solution of virus components, viruses or other agents that produce an immune response
Vaccine
An immunity that occurs naturally because of an exposure to an infectious agent in daily life
Active, natural immunity
An immune reaction that results from immediate hypersensitivities In which an antibody mediated immune response occurs within minutes of exposure to a harmless antigen
Allergies
Which of the following is a widespread, usually worldwide, pattern of disease
Pandemic
Even though prokaryotes don’t reproduce sexually, they can acquire new genetic material In 3 ways:
Conjugation/transfer through pili, uptake from environment, viral injection of new genes
