How was the role of women changed during WW1?
A
-Women were needed to fill the gaps in the home front, especially after conscription was introduced. Industries which had previously excluded women now welcomed them.
-Women began to work in jobs such as ambulance drivers, window cleaners, dentists etc.
-Women’s Land Army was created. Many young men conscripted, women became farmers. Was created last minute. Around 250,000 members
-Women’s role in industry changed. The biggest increase in female employment was in engineering. Over 30,000 Scottish women were employed in munitions in places such as Glasgow, Clydebank, Gretna.
