  • Purchased in 1820 and houses built on it

  • The rich lived there
  • 1825-1873 the road was a toll road that connected Hessle and Hull
  • 1870’s, began to expand West
  • 1870’s, Commercial shops start to open
  • Opening of Albert Dock
  • Lead to more housing being built
  • Tram service meant more people could commute further to work
  • Rapid expansion in the 1880’s
  • Houses were small and filthy
  • 1885, the front of Hessle road was mostly shop keepers

  • America pressured Britain to stop fishing there
  • Catastrophic for Hull Ports
  • Almost all fisherman were put out of work
