Wages
Many Germans benefitted from increases in real wages. By 1928 wages had increased by 10%
Germany had some of the best paid workers in Europe
Middle class workers that suffered from the hyperinflation didn’t experience a rise in wages. Unemployment remained high (teachers and lawyers)
Housing
1924-31 more than 2M houses were renovated or expanded. By 1928 homelessness was reduced by 60%
State was spending too much money on these changes when they still had to pay for the reparations ( low interest loans, tax grants and fox investments)
Unemployment Insurance
In the 1880s Chancellor Otto von Bismarck introduced an idea to help out the ill and old. This idea was extended with an unemployment insurance law in 1927. This helped out unemployed and their families
Gov spent lots of money on backing people. People might have become to dependent on it. More unemployment
Women
Were given more opportunities such as voting. People began considering equality for the sexes therefore jobs, education and wages became equal for both sexes. Women also had more freedom socially
After the war the men came back and the well paid jobs were given back to them
Cultural Changes
Censorship was removed therefore art became more exciting and expressing
New operas,plays and cinemas
This period encouraged literature from both wings
Architecture flourished (Bauhaus Movement)
When the right wing came to power they said these changes were un-German and immoral therefore changed them(architecture)
