What where the aim’s of chaney et al’s study?
He wanted to find out if the principle of reinforcement could be used in a health setting.
How many participants where there?
32 children between the ages of 1.5 and 6 years
How was the study carried out?
It was carried out by giving 32 children a funhaler to use with there usual arochamber or breath a tech .At the beginning of the study the parents were given a questionnaire to fill in about their current inhaler and asked to sign a consent form.After this they where given the funhaler for 2 weeks and where asked to fill in another questionnaire about how many times the child used the funhaler.

What was the conclusion of the study?
The funhaler led to an increase in use and parents tended to be less likely to give up and use the nebuliser if they were using the funhaler.
What were the results?
Percentage of children who used the funhaler the day before the parents were asked(at random times) :81%
Percentage of children who got 4 or more breath cycles a day with the funhaler(out of kids using it): 80%
Percentage of parents sucessfully medicating child always with funhaler: 73%
What perspective does this study take?
The study takes the behaviorist perspective and tries to see if it can be used in the medical field.
How does the nature/nurture debate relate to this study?
It relates to the nature/nurture debate because it shows that the children can be taught to more willingly take their asthma medication,however it also supports the nature side because most children still refused to take thr medication despite the incentive of the funhaler,inplying there was something different in their nature.
