Q

Pre takeoff contamination check procedures

A

Are to be used when:

Temps below 5c and freezing precip, fog, or snow is occurring or expected to occur

Areas considered critical from a ground icing perspective include:

(These areas must be free of snow, frost, and ice prior to taxi)

  • upper wing surface, including control surfaces, flaps, spoilers
  • upper surface of engine nacelles
  • control surface gaps
  • wing fairings
  • lower surface of horizontal stabilizer
  • airfoil boundary layer control devices (VG’s, etc)
  • pitot tubes/static sources
  • stall warning and AOA sensor

See section 8-5-3 for full list

Q

BE1900 fluid application and representative surfaces

A

Do not spray into engine inlets. Bleeds off

Representative surfaces:
1. wing outboard of fuel filler, rep sfc for other metal critical control surfaces

  1. Upper, aft three inches of radome, rep sfc for stabilions

Inside pre-takeoff check:
1. Lean forward to inspect outer wing panel, prop spinner, and engine inlet area.

  1. Where nose and radome meet = rep sfc for stabilons

Q

Is AMF authorized to use holdover tables?

A

No. But they can be used as a reference to determine approximately how long you can expect the aircraft to remain clean between deice applications.

Q

At what surface wind velocity shall AMF cease operations?

A
  • Sustained surface wind speeds >40KTS
  • Aircraft may taxi with winds as high as 50KTS
  • Brief gusts not exceeding 10KTS above stated limits are acceptable
