Land as soon as practical

While in IMC

  • —> Route:
    1. Assigned route
    2. Vectors
    3. Expected route
    4. Flight planned route
  • —> Altitude: (highest of the three, until reaching IAF or IF as applicable)

Q

What constitutes hazardous windshear? And below what altitude should the crew initiate windshear recovery procedures if encountered?

A

Wind vector change of more than 20kts in less than 2.5nm, or; vertical shear of 500fpm or more is to be considered hazardous during any phase of flight.

Windshear recovery procedures if encountered below 1500’

Q

Situations that require a missed approach/go-around while IFR and inside the FAF on an IAP

A
  • > 3/4 scale deflection on CDI
  • When aircraft is not in a position to make normal landing
  • Flight visibility decreases below approach mins
  • Visual contact with landing runway is lost (straight-in)
  • Visual contact with any identifiable part of the airport is lost during a circling approach (except for due to normal banking of the aircraft)
