CH5 Abnormal Procedures Flashcards
Lost communications 91.185
If in VMC or if VMC is encountered after failure:
Land as soon as practical
While in IMC
- —> Route:
1. Assigned route
2. Vectors
3. Expected route
4. Flight planned route - —> Altitude: (highest of the three, until reaching IAF or IF as applicable)
1. Minimum IFR altitude (MEA/MOCA)
2. Expected altitude
3. Assigned altitude
What constitutes hazardous windshear? And below what altitude should the crew initiate windshear recovery procedures if encountered?
Wind vector change of more than 20kts in less than 2.5nm, or; vertical shear of 500fpm or more is to be considered hazardous during any phase of flight.
Windshear recovery procedures if encountered below 1500’
In which situations can vertical shears be expected?
Thunderstorms, microbursts, fronts, virga, mountain waves, rainshowers, blowing dust, and inversions.
Situations that require a missed approach/go-around while IFR and inside the FAF on an IAP
- > 3/4 scale deflection on CDI
- When aircraft is not in a position to make normal landing
- Flight visibility decreases below approach mins
- Visual contact with landing runway is lost (straight-in)
- Visual contact with any identifiable part of the airport is lost during a circling approach (except for due to normal banking of the aircraft)
VFR go around shall be initiated if any of the following occur
- ATC issued
- Hazard on runway
- Overtaking aircraft ahead
- Windshear
- Significant wake turbulence
- Destabilized approach
