Ergonomics?
Products marked as Ergonomic is designed to place less stress on the body during use than a product not marked as such. Good ergonomic design and positioning of equipment can enable people to use equipment extensively with no adverse effects on the body. Bad ergonomics can cause eyestrain, neck and shoulder problems, backaches, and tendon problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
Keyboard tilt for users?
Keyboard should either be flat or tilted toward the user at a 25-Degree Angle.
Distance between floor and the keyboard should be?
23 and 28 Inches, or whatever height is necessary for the user’s forearms to be perpendicular to the floor while typing.
Chair Position?
Distance between the floor and seat should be 16 to 19 inches, or whatever height is necessary so that the user’s thighs are parallel, and calves are perpendicular to the floor when sitting upright with fleet flat on the floor.
Acronym: ESD/EMI?
ESD = Electrostatic Discharge - Happens when objects with different electrical charges come close enough for the excess charge to jump quickly to equalize the charge between them.
EMI = Electromagnetic Interference - Occurs when a cable runs too close to something that generates a strong electromagnetic field. EMI is not permanently damaging, but it can garble the data flowing through the cable and having to retransmit reduces performance.
Power Sag?
Insufficient voltage. They don’t usually damage hardware, but they can cause it to temporarily malfunction, resulting in memory storage errors that can cause the OS to unexpectedly freeze up or restart.
Power Outage?
Power from the electric company isn’t reaching your location. Also a Blackout, caused by storms or other happenings knocking down power lines.
Surges/Spikes?
Sudden, dramatic increases in voltage. Computer components are designed to operate at precise low voltages, and they are easily damaged by higher voltages. A lightning strike at or near your home can send a spike of high-voltage electricity through your AC power outlets and into connect devices.
Surge Suppressors can absorb excess power during a surge or spike to prevent it from reaching the plugged-in suppressors.
Power Conditioner?
Enhances the features of a Surge Suppressor by storing extra voltage in a capacitor and then releasing it onto the power line to smooth out power sags.
Acronym: UPS?
Uninterruptible Power Supply - Combines a surge suppressor, a power conditioner, and a batter backup. Can protect against surges, spikes, and provide power USB so that the OS can shut itself down automatically when the UPS reports a power outage.
List the Post-Installation Tasks involved in setting up a New PC?
- Installing Security Software
- Make sure Network Connections are working.
- Run Software and Security Updates
- Configure Peripherals
- Installing/Updating Additional Software
- Uninstall Unneeded Software
Bloatware?
Many new computers come with applications most people don’t need, or even want preinstalled because their developers paid the PC manufacturer. This can include Trial Versions of useful software, marginally useful software, and stuff that is downright annoying.
