16
Q

Optical Storage?

A

Store data in Reflectivity patterns on a shiny surface. Common Optical Disks include CDs, DVDs, and BDs. Unlike HDDs, Optical Disks are Removable from the drive that reads them.

Optical Disk is the Disk.
Optical Drive is the Drive that reads the Disk.

17
Q

Solid-State Storage?

A

Uses Nonvolatile (Flash) memory that can retain data when powered down. This technology has no moving parts. Solid-State storage is more expensive per gigabyte than disk-based storage, but it is also lighter, faster, quieter and more efferent.

18
Q

Local Storage?

A

Also called Direct Attached Storage (DAS), has direct internal or external connection to the device accessing it. Internal storage devices are physically located inside the main case of the computer and share its power supply.

19
Q

External Storage?

A

Connects to External Ports, some drives will draw all their power from the port, but others may need an additional alternating current adapter.

20
Q

Network Storage?

A

Network Storage or Hosted Storage is accessed over a LAN in your own home or office, a wide area network (WAN) with computers in different countries, or anything in between.

21
Q

Network-Attached Storage?

A

NAS typically describes a simple stand-alone device that connects one or more hard drive slots, a pared down file serve, and a network connection. Doesn’t have a keyboard, mouse, monitor, or full blown operating system, it just shares access to the installed hard drives.

22
Q

Ad Hoc Networks?

A

Connects devices directly without any “infrastructure” hardware such as a switch, router, or a server. Examples of Ad Hoc Networks include:

Direct Link - Two computers can be physically connected directly to one another via cables.
Wireless Network - In some cases you can use the wireless LAN adapters in two or more computers to create an impromptu network.
Bluetooth - Bluetooth device such as keyboard, mouse, headset or printer might connect directly to a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

23
Q

File Transfer Protocol Methods?

A

FTP - File Transfer Protocol
SFTP - Secure File Transfer Protocol, piggybacks on the SSH Protocol (Secure Shell)
FTPS - File Transfer Protocol over TLS/SSL (Transport Layer Security / Secure Sockets Layer)

24
Q

Web-Based File Downloads/Storage Types?

A

HTTP: - Hypertext Transfer Protocol
HTTPS: - Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure over SSL, establishes an encrypted link between the Web Server and the User’s Browser originally using a Security Protocol called SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).

HTTPS-based web sites today use the more robust TLS (Transport Layer Security), but developers kept the original name of the protocol.

HTTPS Secure Websites are indicated with HTTPS at the beginning of the URL and with a LOCK Icon in the address bar.
