The standard client configuration on which custom configurations are based. Must meet the recommended requirements for the selected operating system, be able to run standard desktop applications, have the ability to attach to a network, and attach to one or more servers.
What are two ways to enhance a CPU’s performance? Pg 223
Increase the power of the CPU, add more cores to the CPU, or both.
What are the components of the computer that graphic design and CAD/CAM workstations place the most stress upon? Pg 223
CPU, RAM, and GPU.
What is the best type of CPU for graphic design and CAD/CAM workstations? Pg 223
A multi-core processor. A Quad-core processor should be considered the minimum for this client configuration.
What is a computerized numerical control(CNC) system? Pg 224
A CNC system takes a set of coded instructions and translates them into machine or tool movements. Usually this is done by cutting away parts of the raw material to sculpt the final product.
What are the three areas in which Audio/Video editing workstations must excel? Pg225
Video enhancements, specialized audio, and specialized hard drives.
What is Non-Linear editing(NLE) and what additional stress does this put on the computer compared to linear editing? Pg 225
NLE stores the video to be edited on a local drive instead of editing being performed in real time as the source video is fed into the computer. Requires workstations with a much higher RAM capacity and disk space.
