Ch11 BB Flashcards
What are the five classifications of printing? Pg 503
impact, inkjet, laser, thermal, and virtual
T/F Impact printers can use any type of 8x11 paper Pg 503
False, impact printers use a special type of paper called tractor feed.
What type of printer is a daisy wheel printer? Pg 503
Impact
What are the different pin counts in dot matrix printers? Pg 505
9, 17, and 24 pins
What does cps stand for? Pg 504
characters per second
How to inkjet printers form an image on the page? Pg 505
By spraying ink on the page.
T/F Inkjet printers are inexpensive and have a relatively good print quality pg 505
True.
List the different catagories of parts in an inkjet printer. Pg 506
Print head/ink cartridge; head carriage, belt, and stepper motor; paper-feed mechanism; control, interface, and power circuitry
How many print heads are there in an inkjet printer? Pg 506
One for each the print cartridges
What is the method of spraying ink out of the cartridge that HP popularized? Pg 506
an electrical signal is sent to the heating element, which heats up quickly and causes the ink to vaporize. the vaporized ink expands and is pushed out the pinhole to form a bubble, this bubble forms a droplet that drops on the page. When the droplet breaks off the surface tension of the ink pulls the rest of the ink back into the cartridge.
What is the method of spraying ink developed by Epson? Pg 506
uses a piezoelectric element that flexes when energized, this outward flex pushes the ink from the nozzle; on the return, it sucks more ink from the reservoir
What is the maintenance station and why is it important? Pg 506
sucks out excess ink from the ink nozzles using vacuum suction and provides an area for the ink nozzles to rest while not in use. Like the name suggests, it keep the ink jets in working order
What is the purpose of the head carriage? Pg 506
Moves back and forth during printing and carries the physical and electronic connections for the print head and (in some cases) ink reservoir.
What is the purpose of the stepper motor and how precise is it? Pg 507
Responsible for moving the head carriage, moves in the same very small increments so it is very accurate in its movements.
What is the carriage belt controlled by and what component does it move? Pg 508
belt is driven by the carriage motor and moves the print head back and forth across the page while it prints.
