CH4.4 P1 Flashcards
1
Q
Where is the hindbrain located?
A
At the base of the brain near the spinal cord
2
Q
Whats the function of the hindbrain?
A
responsible for basic survival:
- regulation of sleep-wake cycle
- regulation of autonomic functions (sleeping, breathing, heart rate, digestion)
- coordination of muscle movement
3
Q
What are the main parts to the hind brain?
A
- Pons
- Medulla
- Cerebellum
4
Q
Function of the pons
A
- Sleep, dreaming, arousal from sleep
- coordination of some muscle movement
- message relay between cerebral cortex & cerebellum and between the medulla & midbrain???
5
Q
Function of medulla
A
- controls vital body functions, breathing
- heart rate blood pressure
- vomiting
- salivating
- coughing
- sneezing
6
Q
Function of cerebellum
A
- coordinates fine muscle movement
- regulates posture and balance
- ensures smooth automatic movement
7
Q
Where is the mid brain located?
A
in the center of brain that contains neural pathways connecting to the hind and fore brain
8
Q
Whats the function of the mid brain?
A
- relaying messages between the hindbrain and forebrain
- filtering and directing sensory information
- regulating arousal and alertness
