Does the Deaf community include all people who become Deaf in their life?
No. It is typically those who were born Deaf and those who became Deaf in their youth or (sometimes) early adulthood. Not people hwo become Deaf due to old age.
Are self labels relevent?
Yes. They reflect a person’s sense of self and their place in the world.
Do only Individualist cultures put importance on self labels?
No. They are significant in all cultures and communities
What are some defining characteristics viewed by members of the Deaf community with their peers?
Having other family members that are Deaf, type of education, onset of Deafness, age of ASL exposure/acquisition
What is Attitudinal Deafness
the degree to which an individual subscribes to the norms and values of Deaf culture, as opposed to those of the majority hearing culture
Do culturally Deaf people accept the term ‘Hearing Impaired’ as a positive or nagative label?
Negative/Stigmatizing/Fundamentally Inaccurate - They do not view themselves as impaired

False. The spectrum moves from Pure ASL to more English based systems such as SEE and/or the Rochester Method

Do all Deaf-Blind people use ASL to communicate?
No. Depending on when they became Deaf-Blind, they may use ASL, Tactile Signs, or the Fingerspelling system
