Behavior
what you can see of a person’s response to the environment; their actions
Behavioral crisis
PT exhibits agitated, violent, uncooperative behavior, or are a danger to themselves/others
Behavioral health emergency
PTs agitation or violence, become threat to themselves or others, more serious
inappropriate behavior, severe impairments to ability to perform daily living
Psychiatric disorder
illness with psychological or behavioral symptoms that may result in impaired functioning
-Anxiety
Organic brain syndrome
temporary or permanent dysfunction in the brain caused by disturbance of physical or physiological functioning of brain tissue
-sudden illness, TBI, seizure, drug/alc abuse, overdose/withdrawal, disease– alzheimer, dementia, meningitis
Functional disorder
physiologic disorder that impairs bodily function when body seems to be normal
-schizophrenia, anxiety, depression
Psychosis
state of delusion in which person is out of tough with reality
Schizophrenia
complex disorder affecting how person thinks, feels behaves.
Onset years 16-30
Cause: brain damage, genetics
Delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, lack of interest in pleasure, erratic speech
Delirium
disorientation, hallucinations, delusions
agitation
Excited delirium
agitated delirium/ exhaustive mania
hyperactive irrational behavior
-hypertension, hyperthermia, tachycardia, diaphoresis, dilated pupils
Positional asphyxia
physical position restricts chest wall movements or causes airway obstruction
-restraint
PTSD
