- Fever, chills, no sweat - invasion on the exterior by wind cold, pores closed and stagnate Wei Yang
- Cough, asthma, stuffiness in the chest - invasion of the exterior wind cold, causes the up flow of interior phlegm fluid, lung qi failing its function of dispersing and descending
- Dilute white and profuse sputum, edema on face and limbs, no thirst - lung blocked by retention of phlegm fluid, phlegm fluid retained in skin

We know that Gan Jiang, Xi Xin and Ban Xia warm the fluid and resolve phlegm. Why do we add Wu Wei Zi?
Wu Wei Zi asringes the lung, prevents dispelling too much which can impair lung qi. It also astringes without keeping the pathogen trapped. This is an effective combination for cough and wheezing due to phlegm fluid.
