Ch18-Mcgraw Hill Flashcards
% of the blood’s volume composed of ethrocytes are called
Hematocrits
Circulatory System parts
Consists of Heart, blood vessels, & blood
Components of Blood & Percentages
Plasma- (47-63%)
Hematocrit- (37-52%)
Buffycoat- (1% or less)
Buffy Coat
Comprised of Leukocytes and platelets
5 types of leukocytes( 2 categories)
Granulocytes(Neutrophils, Eosinophils, Basophils)
Agranulocytes(Lymphocytes, Monocytes)
7 Formed Elements of blood include
Platelets/thrombocytes, erythrocytes/RBCs, and (Leukocytes/WBC) 5 types
Plasma Components in Serum
1)Immunoglobulins/ 2)Albumin/ 3)Nitrogenous wastes/4)Glucose+electrolytes
Plasma Components in Serum
1)Immunoglobulins/ 2)Albumin/ 3)Nitrogenous wastes/4)Glucose+electrolytes
Components of blood(Plasma)
Albumins, Globulins, fibrinogen, electrolytes+nutrients
Buffy coat
During blood fractionation, white blood cells and platelets settle into a narrow cream/buff- colored zone called the Buffy coat
-Right above rbcs, total 1% or less of the blood volume.
Plasma Proteins
Albumins- #p by liver
globulins- # p by plasma cells
fibrinogen- #p by liver
Blood Serum
Result of plasma separating and after coagulation/clotting and then being centrifuged again. These clotting proteins once settled to the bottom of the tube and the overlying fluid is then called blood serum.
(SERUM)…. cont
Clinically Valuable as a vehicle for vaccines, antivenins, and other therapies; for certain blood tests, and for many clinical and research laboratory uses
Albumin
most abundant# serves to transport solutes, lipids, hormones, calcium and buffer the ph of blood plasma# effects viscosity and responsible for colloid osmotic pressure
Globulins(3)
Antibodies that provide immune function, #3 types, Alpha, Beta, Gamma
