CHILD NEGLECT (5)
A
- When a child’s caregiver is unable or unwilling to cater to his physical, educational & emotional needs
- Child neglect is chronic
- Bigger than child abuse
- After a while children are not able to develop social & verbal skills to be able to interact with other learners
- After a while children could develop behavioural problems
- Neglected children are more self-destructive, inattentive, nervous & withdrawn

PHYSICAL NEGLECT (4)
A
- Failure to provide sufficient nutrition & safe & clean accommodation
- Failure to provide clothes that is appropriate for the weather
- Failure to look after child
- Failure to provide child with necessary medical supplies

EDUCATIONAL NEGLECT (2)
A
- Failure to ensure child regularly attends school

EMOTIONAL NEGLECT (3)
A
- Failure to help child develop positive self-image or give positive reassurance
- Exposing child to domestic abuse
- Allowing child to use drugs

PHYSICAL ABUSE (3)
A
- Caregiver purposefully hurts or threatens to hurt child
- Could be done once or repeated
- Child doesn’t usually know what he has done wrong

SIGNS OF ABUSE (5)
A
- Abused child doesn’t like to be touched
- Could be withdrawn, depressed & then suddenly aggressive
- Lack of self-confidence & self-esteem
- Come to school early & go home late because they are afraid to go home
- Wear unusual clothes to cover up injuries
- Deny they were abused & make up stories because they are scared or embarrassed & want to protect parents

- Any sexual interaction that they adult makes with a child
2. Considered abuse with or without child’s consent
