  2. When people think something is wrong with their body & show physical or emotional symptoms indicates they are ill
  3. Get medical help because of feeling ill
  4. People change their behaviour to get well when they think they are ill
  5. Illness can often be a state of mind – if you think you are ill then you will be ill as body & mind have close relationship

  2. Different diseases have specific causes, symptoms & risk factors
  3. Disease manifests because of a combination of factors
    a. Genetic, lifestyle, health behaviours, pathogens (bacteria & viruses, environmental toxins
  4. You can feel ill without having a disease
  5. You can have a disease without feeling ill
  6. Diseases don’t always show obvious symptoms which can lead to people thinking they are healthy when they are not

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

A
  1. Refers to the choices and actions we make as well as the habits we form that decrease our chances of becoming ill or getting diseases.
  2. If we work too hard it will lead to stress and fatigue so this is an example of an unhealthy lifestyle
  3. It would be far better to exercise on a regularly basis as this would improve our health rather than negatively affecting it. Thus, this would be a good example of a healthy lifestyle.

  2. Early health education involves improving knowledge & promoting behaviours that support & improve health
  3. Primary preventers:
    a. Eat well balanced diet
    b. Exercise well
    c. Get enough rest
    d. Minimize stress
    e. It’s easier to develop healthy habits as early as possible than to change fixed behaviours
