What causes the tides?
Disturbing force: sun and moon
Restoring force: gravity.
Know the definition of a diurnal, semidiurnal and mixed tide.
Diurnal: 1 high tide in 24 hrs.
Semidiurnal: 2 high tides in 24 hrs.
Mixed tides: combination
What type of tide does Miami experience?
Semi-diurnal
How are high and low tides positioned on earth with regards to the position of the moon?
High tide- earths side facing and facing away from the moon.
Low tide- regions water was taken to create high tides
What are neap and spring tides?
Neap tides: tides reduced when sun and moon at right angles.
Spring tides: tides amplified when sun and moon aligned.
Know how a full moon might or might not affect the tides?
In a full moon the tide would be higher than usual.
