American Nation Election Studies
1952- researchers at the university of michigan and standford university, ANES collects data on the political attitudes and behavior among voters, such as the party affiliation, voting practices, and opinions on parties and candidates.
Conservative
The Conservative Party, officially the Conservative and Unionist Party, is a centre-right political party in the United Kingdom. It is currently the governing party, having been so since the 2010 general election, where a coalition government with the Liberal Democrats was formed
Exit polls
a poll of people leaving a polling place, asking how they voted.

a lifelong process by which people form their ideas about politics and acquire political values. The family, educational system, peer groups, and the mass media all play a role.
population
the number of living things that live together in the same place.
public opinion
views prevalent among the general public.
public opinion polls
designed to represent the opinions of a population by conducting a series of questions and then extrapolating generalities in ratio or within confidence intervals.
push polls
an interactive marketing technique, most commonly employed during political campaigning, in which an individual or organization attempts to manipulate or alter prospective voters’ views/beliefs under the guise of conducting an opinion poll.
random sampling
the basic sampling technique where we select a group of subjects (a sample) for study from a larger group (a population). Each individual is chosen entirely by chance and each member of the population has an equal chance of being included in the sample.
sample
In statistics and quantitative research methodology, a data sample is a set of data collected and/or selected from a statistical population by a defined procedure. The elements of a sample are known as sample points, sampling units or observations.
sampling error
error in a statistical analysis arising from the unrepresentativeness of the sample taken.
social conservative
conservative values on non-fiscal matters, such as the promoting defense of marriage, opposition to abortion, opposition to homosexuality, and promoting common sense Christian values.
statist
relating to or characteristic of a political system in which the state has substantial centralized control over social and economic affairs.
stratified sampling
In statistics, stratified sampling is a method of sampling from a population. In statistical surveys, when subpopulations within an overall population vary, it could be advantageous to sample each subpopulation independently.
straw polls
an unofficial ballot conducted as a test of opinion.
tracking polls
Continuous surveys that enable a campaign or news organization to chart a candidates daily or weekly rise or fall in support.
