What is social psychology?
scientific study of the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of individuals in social situations
What is the fundamental attribution error?
Tendency to overemphasize importance of personal dispositions bc difficulty to see power of situation
Describe what a construal is
How individuals perceive, comprehend, and interpret the world around them, particularly the behaviour/action of others towards themselves.
Social psychology focuses on the role of construal.

Stored representations of numerous repetitions of highly similar stimuli + situations. They tell us how to interpret situations + how to behave in them

What is a stereotype?
Stereotypes are a schema of people, that serve to guide our interpretation and behavior but that can often be mistaken and/or misapplied, leading to damaging behavior
Believing that because things are in a particular way means they should be that way
The naturalistic fallacy
What are independent/individualistic societies characterized by?
Characterized by fewer social relationships of a looser sort.
Ie often in Western countries
What are interdependent/collectivistic societies defined by?
characterized by many relationships of highly prescribed nature, ie Japan
