Ch. 9 Cervical Spine Flashcards
What are the five projections for C-Spine?
- Lateral Grandy Method pg. 447
- (2) AP Axial Oblique RPO and LPO pg. 451
- AP Axial pg.445
- AP Open Mouth pg. 442
What is the central ray for AP C1-C2 Open Mouth and breathing instructions?
- Perpendicular to the center of the IR, Enters the patient at the midpoint of open mouth
- Respiration: instruct the patient to keep their mouth wide open and to say “Ah”
AP Axial C1-C2, Open Mouth:
What is the SID and part position?
SID 40-48 inches; 30 inches may be used
- Patient MSP of the head perpendicular to the plane of the table for supine or bucky board if upright
- Align the edge of the upper incisors and mastoid tip perpendicular to the IR
- Mouth open as wide as possible
Collimation for AP Open Mouth?
5 x 5 inches
What structures are shown on an AP Open Mouth Projection?
Atlas and Axis through the open mouth
Evaluation Criteria for AP Open Mouth:
Pg. 443
AP Axial C-Spine:
SID and Patient / Part Position?
SID 40-48 inches / 15-20 degree cephalad angle
- Supine or Upright
- Shoulders in the same horizontal plane to prevent rotation
- MSP aligned with the long axis of the IR
- Extend the chin enough so that the occlusal plane is perpendicular to the IR
What is the central ray and respiration for AP Axial C-SPine projection?
Collimation?
- Directed through C4 at an angle of 15 to 20 degrees cephalad
- Suspend
- 10 inches lengthwise and 1 inch beyond the skin shadow on the sides
Structures shown on an AP Axial C Spine:
pg. 446
Evaluation Criteria for AP Axial C Spine:
pg. 446
Lateral Projection Grandy Method C-Spine:
What is the SID and Patient/Part Position?
- 60-72 inches SID
- Upright, seated, or standing
- Top of the IR is about 1 inches above the external acoustic meatus (EAM)
- Center the coronal plane that passes through the mastoid tips to the midline of the IR
- Shoulders in the same horizontal plane, relaxed down
- Chin elevated and mandible protruded
Lateral Projection Grandy Method C-Spine:
Central Ray, Respiration, and Collimation?
- CR horizontal and perpendicular to C4
- 10 x 12 inches
- Suspend respiration at the end of full expiration to obtain maximum depression of the shoulders
Structures shown and Evaluation Criteria for Lateral Projection Grandy Method C Spine
Pg. 448
AP Axial Oblique RPO and LPO C -Spine:
What is the SID and Patient/Part Position?
60-72 inches SID / 15 - 20 degree cephalad angle
- Supine or Upright
- Adjust the head and body at a 45-degree angle, and center the cervical spine to the midline of the body
AP Axial Oblique RPO and LPO C -Spine:
Central Ray, Collimation and respiration?
- CR directed to C4 at a cephalad angle of 15-20 degrees
- 10 x 12 inches
- Suspend
AP Axial Oblique RPO and LPO C -Spine:
Structures Shown and Elevation Criteria
Pg. 450
How many bones make up the cervical spine?
Seven, C1-C7
