CH 8 Flashcards
The study of the design of equipment, the working environment, and the workload with the goal of reducing musculoskeletal stress on the body.
Ergonomics
Body motions and the muscular forces used to complete tasks.
Biomechanics
Leaning with the body weight to provide pressure.
Leverage
Something that internally or externally causes the movement of the body to change or sift-tissue structures to deform.
Force
The average position of an object’s weigh distribution.
Center-of-gravity
The ability to maintain the body’s center of gravity within the base of support.
Balance
The point of contact between the practitioner and the client.
Balance point
In massage, used to indicate magnitude. The amount of force applied into the tissue.
Pressure
A term used to describe the combination of pressure, drag, and duration that is most beneficial and most satisfying to clients is the process. The capacity of the muscoloskeletal system (and other systems) of the body to self-correct, come into balance, and achieve equilibrium through the skillful normalization of tissue tone by a massage therapist.
