what is an intervention?
To come or occur between 2 things, events or points in time; to come in or between so as to hinder or alter an action
what is multiplicity
refers to the # of components or activities that make up an intervention
what is dose?
the # of program units delivered
Scope
the breadth and depth of the material covered in a curriculum
Penetration rate
in the priority population exposed or reached
Segmenting
the act of segmentation (process of identifying groups of consumers that share similar characteristics and will respond in a like way to a marketing strategy)
Sequencing
order in which the content of a curriculum is presented
Tailoring
any combination of info or change strategies intended to reach one specific person, based upon characteristics that are unique to that person, related to the outcome of interest, and have been derived from an individual assessment
Incentive
reward for achieving a goal; also used as a means to entice the consumer to purchase the product or adopt a behavior
Disincentive
consequences for not acting in a certain way; also used as a means to discourage the consumer from purchasing a product or behaving in a certain way.
Health literacy
the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health info and service to make appropriate health decisions
Organizational culture
the formal and informal policies of an organization that express the organization’s values
Identify the six types of intervention strategies and be able to give examples of each
- Health communication strategies
- Health education strategies
- Health policy/enforcement strategies
- Environmental change strategies
- Health-related community service strategies
- Community mobilization strategies
Identify the reading level which health educators should use in communication strategies and the test to determine readability.
6th grade reading level, SMOG (Simple Measure of Gobbledegook), the Fog-Gunning Index, or the Fry readability Formula
Identify the 10 general principles for learning
- If several of the senses are used
- If the learner is actively involved in the process, rather than a passive participant
- If the learner is not distracted by discomfort or extraneous events
- If the learner is ready to learn
