Ch 8 Flashcards
1
Q
What makes an isoelectronic pair?
A
Having the same number of electrons (atomic number plus or minus charge) (O2- has 17 for example, 8x2 plus 1)
2
Q
Ground state vs. excited state
A
Ground state is all levels are full , excited higher levels have electrons before lowers are at capacity
3
Q
Electron capacity for each subshell
A
n = 2 p = 6 d = 10 f = 14
4
Q
Order of electron configurations
A
1s, 2s, 2p, 3s, 3p, 4s, 3d, 4p…
5
Q
Electrons in a configuration correspond to what on the periodic table?
A
The atomic number, adding all the electrons (small numbers) in an electron configuration will tel you the atomic number (Na is 11)
6
Q
Atomic radius trends on periodic table
A
Left to right - Smaller
Going down - bigger
