Process consultation- This intervention focuses on interpersonal relations and social
dynamics occurring in work groups
Third-party intervention- . This change method is a form of process consultation
aimed at dysfunctional interpersonal relations in organizations.
Team building- This intervention helps work groups become more effective in accomplishing tasks.
System wide HPI:
Organization Confrontation Meeting: mobilizes members to identify problems, set action targets, and work on problems
Intergroup relations: improve interactions between different groups/departments
Large Group Intervention- broad variety of stakeholders brought together to clarify values and solving org problems
What is the difference between HRD and HRM
Need HRD first before moving to HRM intervention
HRM more encompassing
HRD more personal
What is Techno-structural intervention?
Involves interventions focusing on an orgs tech (task methods and job design) and structure (division of labour and hierarchy)
For restructuring org:
- Structural design- division of labour
- Downsizing-
- Reengineering- radically transforms work processes
For involving employees in decision making:
Parallel structures
TQM
High involvement org.
Designing work for individual jobs
Job enrichment
Self-managed work teams
What are HRM Mgmt Interventions?
For performance management:
Goal setting
Performance appraisal
Reward systems
Characteristics of Goal setting interventions:
Involves setting clear, challenging goals
What is MBO
special case of goal-setting intervention
What are the 3 criteria for effective Intervention??
Valid information- result of accurate diagnosis
Knowledge of outcomes- the specific results of intervention known
Extent to which it enhances org capacity to manage change- org members should be able to do it
What are the stages of economic development?
Subsistence
Industrializing
Industrialized
How does the level of economic development affect OD interventions/activities?
Subsistence: OD Interventions emphasise global social change and focus on creating conditions suitable for sustainable change
Industrializing : Orgs in this economy focus on efficiency of operations and revenue growth(grow with economy)
Industrial: Best context for OD practice- most resources available
Implications of national culture values
Context- extent to which words carry the meaning of a message; how time is viewed
High: Asian and Latin American, Low: US
Power Distance: extent to which members in a society accept that power is unequally distributed in an org

Uncertainty avoidance: tolerance level of unfamiliar and unpredictable
High: Asian
Low: European
Achievement Orientation: extent of valuing assertiveness and the acquisition of material goods
