Q

How do you handle personal issues as a behavior analyst?

A

Make sure that personal issues do not interfere with your ability to deliver quality services. This is probably best handled via the “trusted colleague” model in which you develop a relationship with a person on whom you can rely to be straight and honest with you on a range of matters that affect your professional life.

Professional behavior is distinguished from private or everyday behavior. What is meant by reliance on scientific knowledge?

A

Relying on scientific evidence as basis for our practice. Data collection from systematic observation before and after treatment is in place to determine if behavior change has occurred.

Behavior analysts rely on scientifically and professionally derived knowledge when making scientific or professional judgements in human services provision, or when engaging in scholarly or professional endeavors. We expect to base our methods of assessment on systematic observation of behavior.

Q

Professional and scientific relationships state that your services should be provided in what?

A

Behavior analysts provide behavioral diagnostic, therapeutic, teaching, research, supervisory, consultative, or other behavior analytic services only in the context of a defined, remunerated professional or scientific relationship or role. One should not “volunteer” to treat someone without a written document, such as a statement of pro bono work.
