Member who tries to maintain peaceful, harmonious group climate by mediating disagreements and resolving conflicts.
Individual Roles
Call attention to individual contributions and tend to be counter productive to the overall group effort.
Norms
Rules or standards that determine a person’s behavior in a group
Ground Rules
Agreed on prescriptions for acceptable and appropriate behavior
Self Concept
Shapes your communication and relationships with others.
Referent Power
People we like have more power over us than people we don’t like. Interpersonal attraction (ppl you admire look up to)
Status
individual relative importance
Power
Ability of the person to control/influence other people decisions.
Legitimate Power
Influence others because of being elected, or selected to exert control over a group.
Exert Power
Influence others based on knowledge and information the member possesses
Reward Power
Reward behaviors ( help gain money, status ).
Coercive Power
Punished for acting/not acting a certain way.
Primary Tension
Social unease and stiffness that accompanies getting acquainted.
Secondary Tension
tension that occurs as group members struggle for influence, develop roles and norms, and explore differences in approaching the group task.
