Kimberlee Crenshaw in 1989
What are the four domains of power (consider Foucault’s micro-power)?
Interpersonal power
Disciplinary power
Cultural power
Structural power
how is power demonstrated in personal interactions?
Interpersonal Power
how does power show up in the ways that individuals are disciplined or treated differently by institutions?
Disciplinary Power
what are the cultural ideologies that maintain intersectionality?
Cultural Power
how does the organization of an institution (or society) disadvantage others based on intersecting identities?
Structural Power
Human beings do not occupy a single social status and the social problems that human beings experiences must be understood in terms of their multiple statuses. Understanding relationships and power dynamics associated with the social statuses are crucial to understanding the experiences of humans.
