CH. 33 Hematologic disorders Flashcards
a condition in which the hemoglobin concentration is lower than normal.
-Reflects the presence of fewer than the normal number of erythrocytes within the circulation as a result oxygen delivered to tissue is diminished.
anemia
in these types of anemias the bone marrow cannot produce adequate numbers of erythrocytes .
Ex- iron deficiency, vitamin B12 def., folate def, decreased EPO production, or cancer/ inflammation
hypoproliferative anemia
In this type of anemia, premature destruction of erthyrocytes results in liberation of hemoglobin from the erythrocytes to the plasma. HGb is converted to bilirubin and bilirubin rises.
hemolytic anemia
These are the general complications associated with severe anemia.
heart failure, paresthesis, and delirium
These symptoms may be present in the older adult with anemia because their body cannot increase HR and and CO to respond to anemia as well as a younger adult.
fatigue,dyspnea, and confusion
This type of anemia is characterized by the presence of abnormally large, nucleated RBC’s, if they do not supplement their diet with vitamin B12
megaloblastic anemia
