Distributive justice
The perception that overall reward outcomes are fair.
Equity Sensitivity
A personality trait that entails a high predisposition toward perceiving personal inequity.
EE focuses on maximizing rewards
Procedural Justice
perception that the process for reward determination is fair.
Organizational justice
how people judge the fairness of their rewards.
Relative Deprivation
suggests that employees experience dissatisfaction with their pay level under six conditions:
- There is a discrepancy between the outcome they want and what they actually receive.
- They see that a comparison “other” receives more than they do.
- Past experience has led them to expect more than they now receive.
- Expectations for achieving better outcomes are low.
- They feel they are entitled to more.
- They absolve themselves of personal responsibility for the lack of better outcomes.
Equity theory
EE’s base perceptions of fairness to others
what they do and how they are rewarded compared to others
Psychological contract
Expectations about rewards offered & effort needed to perform the job.
perceived violations can cause employees to have less trust in their employer, decreased job satisfaction, reduced citizenship behaviour, and decreased work performance, and can lead to increased turnover, theft, or even sabotage.
Organizational Identification
shared goals and belongingness, & desire to remain a member of the organization.
Leads to citizenship behaviour
Work Motivation
attitude towards job performance
desire to perform job well.
Job Satisfaction
attitude towards job and workplace.
Identify three key job attitudes
1) job satisfacation - leads to membership behaviour
2) work motivation - leads to task behaviour
3) organizational identification - leads to citizenship behaviour
Define the three key employee behaviours desired by employers.
(1) membership behaviour - EE joins and stays with org.
(2) task behaviour - EE does what is expected
(3) organizational citizenship behaviour - EE goes above and beyond
