Ch 20. Aerial Strategies And Tactics Flashcards
In regards to how communications about an incident scene should be relayed, what are the three elements of communications?
Pre-arrival communications
on scene communications
tactical communications
If an aerial device is being used as an emergency escape for firefighters, it should not be repositioned unless:
Unless the change is communicated effectively and acknowledged
What are two reasons the aerial ladder may ideally be positioned at the corner of a building?
You can potentially reach victims on two sides of a building
you are potentially safer on the corner if a structure collapse occurs
If the aerial device is being used to affect a rescue and is in danger of high heat conditions, what type of stream is best used to cool and protect the aerial device and personal?
A wide angle fog is preferred. Solid streams may potentially injure personnel or place damaging load stresses on the device
What are the four priority considerations for rescue in order of importance?
Those most severely threatened by the conditions or the hazard
largest number of groups of people
remainder of the people in hazard area
people in exposure areas
In regards to priority considerations for rescue, what might be indicators of those most severely threatened by conditions of the hazard?
Occupants in or immediately above the fire floor.
Occupants including panic victims who are not in the immediate Fire area but may be ready to jump.
Why should Ariel devices be raised, rotated, extended and then lowered to the victim?
The areael device should be lowered to the victim to prevent them from attempting to jump onto the ladder
Once an aerial device is in place for rescue, what should be engaged to make the device a rigid structure if so equipped?
Extension locks
When removing trapped victims from the roof, why should the aerial ladder tip be placed so that at least 6 feet extends above the edge of the roof?
This position allows victims to have a hand hold while climbing onto the ladder or into the platform
When using an area device to reach victims off parapit style roofs, where should the roof ladder rest if the structure is sound?
The roof ladder should rest against the parapet rather than the aerial ladder if the structure is sound
What method Of victim removal involves the victim facing away from the ladder and straddling the firefighters knee?
The knee seat method
What method of caring victims down the aerial ladder requires a fire fighter the place both hands under the victims body in grasp the handrails
Across the rails method
When should firefighters carry small children and adults down the aerial ladder
As a last resort
How many firefighters are preferred to assist victims in boarding and descending the aerial ladder during rescue?
Two firefighters
A safety firefighter should be positioned just down ladder of the lead fire fighter when the lead fire fighter is carrying a victim in what position?
Over the shoulder
