What regulations apply concerning the operation of an aircraft that has had alterations or repairs which may have substantially affected its operation in flight?

A

No person may operate or carry Pax in any aircraft that has undergone Mx, preventative Mx, rebuilding, or alteration that may have appreciably changed its flight characteristics until an appropriately rated pilot with at least a private pilot

i. Flies the aircraft
ii. Makes ops check of Mx performed,
iii. Logs the flight in the aircraft records.

During preflight, you find inop equipment. How do you determine if it is still airworthy for flight?

A

i. Is the inop equipment part of the VFR-Day type certification.
ii. Is it listed as required on the “Kinds of Operations Equipment” for the type of flight operation being conducted?
iii. Is it required by 91.205, 91.207, or any other part 91 rule for the type of flight being conducted (VFR, IFR, day, night, etc)Is it required to be operational by AD?

If the answer is YES, it is NOT airworthy
If no, it must be removed, or deactivated and placarded

Cannot fly at night per the FARs – During the day you would deactivate or remove the component

A

Difference between standard and special airworthiness certificate?

A

Standard - White. Issued for Normal, utility, acrobatic, commuter, or transport category AC

Special - Pink. Issued for primary, restricted, or limited category AC, or light sport.

How to confirm an AC meets its type design and is safe to operate?

A

Type design - Confirm ALL mx performed IAW regs. Check mx records!

Safe for operation - Perform thorough preflight. If inop equipment found, check 91.213 to confirm is it can legally be operated and under what conditions.
