Privileges and limitations of Private Pilot

A
  • May not act as PIC for compensation or hire, or carry Pax or property for compensation or hire
  • May not pay less than pro rata share (fuel, oil, rental, etc.)
  • Can be reimbursed for SAR operations (fuel, oil, rental, etc)
  • Can act as PIC for a charity, if conducted according to FARs
  • May act as PIC in connection to business, if flight is incidental to business
  • May demonstrate an airplane to buyer if you have more than 200 flight hours
  • May tow glider with some training and 100 hours PIC time

A

If inop equipment found on preflight or prior to departure,

  • Flight should be canceled, Mx prior to flight, or defer the item
  • Mx deferals are not used for inflight discrepencies
    • Consult AFM/POH for these situations

  • MEL considered an STC
  • Once implemented, the MEL issued for the AC becomes mandatory
    • ALL Mx deferals must be performed IAW the MELand op generated procedures

A
  • Determine if the equipment is required by regs, type design, or AD
  • If not required, remove disable the equipment and placard the appropriate switch/control/indicator
  • If deactivation or removal requires Mx, it must be performed by qualified mechanic
