Recognizes the social and historical aspects of a group of people providing information about customs, norms, and social aspects of the group
What three areas define community integration?
employment or other productive activity, independent living, social activity
Ways that a treatment environment can be welcoming to individuals with culturally diverse backgrounds
Display objects and pictures from a variety of cultures, celebrate holidays and events from different cultures, encourage use of first language, provide bilingual and multilingual signs, provide books and materials written in various languages, provide opportunities for people from similar groups and languages to gather, encourage people to write in their first language, invite volunteers from different groups as a resource
Practical guidelines when providing care and assistance for culturally diverse population
Always treat others as you would like to be treated, always ask before giving assistance, think before speaking and avoid labels, avoid showing pity or being patronizing
