Who was Mr. Raymond Dolphus? Why was he an outcast? Why did he pretend to be drunk?
Mr. Raymond Dolphus is an outcast because he has a black wife and mixed children. He pretends he’s drunk so that people would stop bothering him to change his peculiar ways.
Describe the mood in the courtroom. What kind of man was Judge Taylor? Use details from the book I support your answer.
The mood in the courtroom is very tense. Judge Taylor “was a man learned in the law, and although he seemed to take his job casually, in reality he kept a firm grip on any proceeding that came before him.”
Describe the Ewells after you’ve gotten to know them in the trial. Why did you think Mayella calls herself the loneliest person in the world?
The Ewells are lazy and dirty. Mayella is the only one that tries to stay clean. Mayella calls herself the loneliest person in the world because she has no Frieda and she kissed a black man.
What kind of man was Tom Robinson? What was there about his personality and fate that made him a mockingbird?
Tom Robinson helps someone when they need it. He is also honest. He shows that not all bland are vicious and raging. He shows that there is kindness within the black community. He doesn’t try to be a kind person he just is. If he was proven innocent, he could’ve changed the whites’ superiority over blacks.
What does Scout mean when she compare the mood in the courthouse to that in the empty street with the mad dog?
She means that the dog’s incident was hopeful. This trial wasn’t since she said the gun was empty.
