Photosynthesis
It is the process by which plants use water, along with carbon dioxide and energy from the sun, to make their own food.
Habitat
The place where an organism lives and obtains all the things it needs to survive.
Groundwater
Water that fills the cracks and spaces in underground soil and rock layers.
Water cycle
The continuous process by which water moves from Earth’s surface to the atmosphere and back.
Transpiration
The process by which the plants give off water vapor through leaves.
Precipitation
Water that falls to Earth as rain, snow, hail, or sleet.
Why do living things need water?
A. Carry out body processes
1) To turn food into energy
2) Carry waste products away
3) Move substances around within the organism
4) Obtain chemicals from their surroundings
5) Photosynthesis
6) Maintain body temperature
B. Many living things use water for shelter ( habitat)
How many percent of Earth’s water are salt water?
Where are they found?
97% are salt water. They are found in the oceans.
What are the 4 areas of the large ocean divided in?
Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic oceans.
How many percent of Earth’s water are fresh water?
Where is it located?
3% are fresh water.
20% of the fresh water is located in America’s Great Lakes.
