Pituitary Gland
Regulating vital body functions and general wellbeing
Prefrontal Cortex
the anterior part of the frontal lobe that plays a role in the regulation of complex cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning
Arousal State
a state of physiological activation associated with sensory stimulation and activation of fibers from the reticular activating system
Cognitive Label
attempts to explain emotions and the significance they have by focusing on how they are formed and why
Spillover Effect
Emotions from one situation may carry over to another situation, strong arousal
Stress
a state of worry or mental tension caused by a change; perception of stress depends on one’s cognitive appraisal
General Adaptation Syndrome
We are able to adapt to stress for a long period of time
Active-Cognitive Strategy
Involve collecting information about the problem
Active-Behavioral Strategy
Where you start taking action to solve the problem
Avoidant Strategy
involve avoiding stressful situations, experiences, or difficult thoughts and feelings as a way to cope
